What do you mean by ‘Holistic’ massage?
The term ‘holistic’ comes from the Greek word ‘holos’ meaning whole. Holistic therapy treats the whole person (mind, body and spirit) and not just the presenting symptoms or problems.
Massage has evolved from a combination of ancient Eastern and Western traditions. By far the greatest advancement of therapeutic massage recorded in history was by a Swedish physiologist named Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839), who created a scientific system of massage movements and techniques known as Swedish Massage.
Holistic massage is a variant of Swedish Massage - adapted to the needs of modern stressful life. By treating the whole person it aims to relax the muscles, calm the emotions, improve the circulation, recharge the body’s immune system, refresh the spirit and balance the life forces.
Holistic Massage practitioners will have acquired a large spectrum of skills, which they can adapt to a variety of circumstances in order to respond to the needs of their clients in the most appropriate and effective way. |
